Beverly Hills, CA patients discover what to expect from surgery to lift the eyebrows

With age and damage caused by environmental toxins, the building blocks of the skin break down. The skin loses elasticity. Gravity takes effect. The result is the development of lines, wrinkles, and sagging skin. For patients in Beverly Hills, CADr. Dennis Dass offers a range of anti-aging procedures including a lift for eyebrows to help patients look as young as they feel.

The face is the first place people start to show signs of aging as the process brings unsightly wrinkles to the face and neck. Frown lines can cause patients to look angry or overly serious. Less elasticity and relaxation in the skin leads to drooping eyebrows and hooded eyelids. Patients look old and tired. Patients who are bothered by signs of aging along the forehead may consider an eyebrow lift to turn back the hands of time.

Also called a forehead lift or simply a brow lift, an eyebrow lift is just that. It is a cosmetic procedure to raise the eyebrows to improve the forehead’s appearance. The area around the eyebrows and eyes is smoothed as the soft tissue and skin are raised. A brow lift may be an option for patients with low, drooping eyebrows or asymmetrical brows. The treatment can be done alone or with other procedures.

Benefits or reasons to choose a forehead or eyebrow lift include the following:

  • Minimizes and improves the appearance of horizontal forehead wrinkles, creases along the bridge of the nose, and frown lines between the eyes
  • Lifts or raises drooping brows that are causing hooding on the upper eyelids
  • Places the brows in a more youthful position for a refreshed look

brow lift can be performed alone or in conjunction with other procedures. It is commonly performed with upper or lower eyelid surgery, facelifts, cosmetic injectables, or skin resurfacing procedures. Whereas a facelift usually applies to the mid or lower sections of the face, an eyebrow lift addresses the top third. The procedures may be combined to treat the whole face.

What to expect

A consultation is required for surgical procedures. During this time, Dr. Dass will review the patient’s medical history, areas of concern, and expected outcomes to determine if a brow lift is an appropriate treatment. Patients with more severe drooping or hooded eyelids may benefit from a combination of treatments. A personalized treatment plan is developed based on each patient’s unique needs and goals. During the consultation, patients should ask questions and raise surgical concerns. This allows patients to be fully prepared and to know what to expect before, during, and after surgery.

To prepare for surgery, patients may need to have lab work done. They may also be asked to stop smoking to help the healing process and to avoid taking aspirin or anti-inflammatory drugs that can increase bleeding or bruising. An eyebrow lift is performed as an outpatient procedure under anesthesia to maintain patient comfort. Since anesthesia is involved, patients must arrange for someone to drive them to and from the procedure.

The type of incision used depends on the patient’s need or surgeon’s preference. The surgeon may use an endoscopic incision or a coronal incision. With an endoscopic incision, an endoscope and special instruments are placed through small incisions along the hairline. The surgeon can adjust and pull the tissue as needed to correct visible creases. When a coronal incision is used, an incision is hidden in the hair but is made from ear to ear. The skin is lifted, and the muscle is adjusted. Any scar remains easily concealed with a coronal incision.

Following the surgery, Dr. Dass and his team will provide detailed instructions for post-operative care. The forehead may be lightly wrapped with a bandage to minimize swelling and bruising. Adhere to the surgeon’s instructions to ensure optimal healing and to minimize the risks of infection. The amount of care, downtime, and recovery may depend on the type and number of procedures performed at once. Side effects such as bruising and swelling will subside with time. Bruising can be concealed with cosmetic products. A brow lift improves the appearance of the upper portion of the face. Add longevity to the results by protecting the skin from the sun and maintaining a healthy lifestyle.
